Our Story & Mission
Compass LA was born out of a moment of being completely lost.
Edwin was a student full of dreams, talent, and potential, but without direction. He had no mentors to walk with me, no clear path to follow, and no understanding of God’s love in his life. Like many young people today wanting purpose, but not knowing the way, Edwin made painful mistakes that left him more broken than fulfilled. He was searching for something true, something grounded enough to guide his life.
And then he met Jesus Christ His Lord and Savior who radically transformed his life.
Jesus wasn’t just a good religious figure, but God in the flesh. He is the way, the truth, and the life. In Him, Edwin found what he had been missing all along: forgiveness, identity, hope, and direction. Jesus became his True Compass, aligning his heart and his future toward a life of joy, purpose, and adventure with Jesus.
That moment didn’t just change his life, it sparked a gospel movement that we know today as Compass LA.
Compass LA began with burning desire to share Jesus with others: If one lost teen, who grew up in the midst of gangs and drugs could find hope in Jesus, then why stop with one student, why not a group of friends, and eventually why not their school and better yet his generation. What started as a personal rescue became a collective Mission to reach, restore and raise-up a Disciples who reflects Jesus Christ.
Six years later, that calling has become a mission with a Vision to ignite gospel movements in public school campuses that awaken a holy generation.
Today, Compass is active across multiple campuses in Downey schools and throughout the Southeast LA area.
Through school clubs, student leaders, and faithful church partners, we are reaching students where they are, restoring hearts and minds through the gospel, and raise up disciples who reflect Jesus and helping change a generations narrative. We engage students through creative outreach, gospel-centered clubs, discipleship groups, and hands-on community service projects, and gospel movements that are forming faith that doesn’t stay quiet, but lives boldly.
Look at what God has done!
Last year alone, over 2,000 students heard the gospel, and more than 500 chose to give their lives to Jesus Christ, But Compass LA has never been about numbers for numbers’ sake. Our heart is transformation. We are committed to raising-up disciples who reflect. Students who grow to reflect Jesus, lead like Jesus, and change the world around them for His glory.
This is only the beginning.Compass LA is growing, and the invitation is open. We are calling schools, churches, volunteers, and supporters to join us in this gospel mission. Together, we can see a generation set on the right direction. Starting with one student, one school, one city and one generation at a time.
Jesus is still the True Compass the world needs, and with Him, an incredible adventure awaits us.
